Kort Nozzles for Propulsion Systems
Trusted around the world decade after decade
for power, precision, and prolonged life.
Harrington Metal Fabrication is one of the few shops in the world capable of manufacturing one-piece kort nozzles.
What is a kort nozzle, you ask?
A kort nozzle is the tapered cylindrical housing surrounding a propeller. The hydrodynamic design of the shape makes vessels more efficient, maneuverable, and powerful in the toughest waters.
Each nozzle we build is formed, welded, and finished in-house for maximum control over quality and fit.
Every interior skin is a single, smooth steel piece—no seams, no weak points. The result is a nozzle that outperforms and outlasts conventional designs, reducing drag, improving thrust, and extending service life.
Standard Nozzle Types
Type 19A Nozzle
Built with a straight profile where the aft portion matches the center diameter, the Type 19A is best when greater free-running speed is required.
It generates the highest forward thrust of all three main nozzle forms but is not recommended for frequent heavy reverse thrust, as the propeller can form cavities and produce vibration under those conditions.
Type 37 Nozzle
With smooth flares both fore and aft, the Type 37 delivers the best performance where vessels require both strong forward and reverse thrust—ideal for tugs and workboats.
Although forward thrust is slightly lower than the other styles, operators typically see a 20–30% gain in bollard thrust over an open propeller.
Type 19B Nozzle
Combining characteristics from the straight Type 19A and the double-flared Type 37, the balanced design of the Type 19B works well for the majority of vessels.
Its tapered aft portion minimizes cavitation during reverse thrust without sacrificing forward performance, making it a balanced, versatile choice for most general applications.
Built to Last
For maximum corrosion resistance all Harrington nozzles can be fabricated with stainless steel interior skins and stainless steel leading and trailing bars.
Each unit features a one-piece interior skin and fully integrated longitudinal and radial framing for uniform strength, improved hydrodynamics, and the longest possible nozzle life.
Proven on the Water
Our kort nozzles have powered vessels from ice-class anchor handlers to inland push boats—reducing turning radii, improving bollard pull, and performing flawlessly in conditions ranging from brown water to blue water.
